Today Samsung has reserved the day to show a little of its commitment to the universe of screens for the year 2021. “The future of screens” is being presented through an online event, on its YouTube channel.

Although Samsung has in its microLED technology the best that exists in the market, the truth is that the market demands more accessible and clear solutions, with increasingly better quality. So today we see the company betting on its QLED televisions with mini-LED technology.

Samsung today unveiled its display portfolio for 2021, with three major segments: TV Neo QLED, MicroLED and Lifestyle. This is a general presentation that predates CES 2021. According to Samsung, the new line is a commitment to accessibility, sustainability and innovation that help to redefine the role of television in consumers' homes.

Last year, we witnessed the fundamental role that technology has played in helping us move on with our lives and stay connected with each other. Our commitment to an inclusive and sustainable future goes hand in hand with our relentless pursuit of innovation, to meet the ever-changing needs of consumers - from reducing the carbon footprint of our products, providing a set of accessibility features and offer an unparalleled viewing experience that adapts to each user’s lifestyle

Said today JH Han, president of Samsung Electronics' Visual Displays division.

New 4K and 8K Neo QLED TVs

Although MicroLED technology is the best that Samsung can offer consumers today, the truth is that there are other needs to be met. It is known that this year will be sold over a million 8K TVs and we had to see Samsung bet on this segment with something more affordable.

Samsung then introduced a new generation of televisions with a Neo QLED panel. The main models are then 8K (QN900A) and 4K (QN90A).

These new Neo QLED panels are powered by Quantum Mini LED technology, which is precisely controlled by Quantum Matrix technology and Neo Quantum Processor, a powerful image processor optimized for Neo QLED.

The mini-LED was presented last year by TLC, substantially improving the image quality than the LCD and at a more affordable price than the OLED. The technology therefore allows manufacturers to place thousands of LED backlights, which ultimately leads to better levels of black and location of brightness.

Samsung's mini LED

Samsung designed the Quantum Mini LED to be 1/40 the height of a conventional LED. Instead of using a lens to disperse light and a package to fix the LED in place, Quantum Mini LED has incredibly thin micro layers filled with many more LEDs.

Quantum Matrix technology allows ultrafine and precise control of densely packed LEDs, avoiding the dispersion of brightness.

Neo QLED increases the luminance scale to 12 bits with 4096 steps. This helps to make dark areas darker and bright areas brighter, resulting in a more accurate and immersive HDR experience. In addition, they still benefit from Samsung's Neo Quantum processor with enhanced upscaling capabilities. Using up to 16 different neural network models, each trained in AI upscaling and deep learning technology, the Neo Quantum processor can optimize image quality for 4K and 8K outputs, regardless of input quality.

Samsung's 2021 Neo QLED 8K and 4K models offer smart features that expand the role of TV and help consumers meet their changing needs when it comes to physical activity, entertainment and home office.

The Neo QLED 8K features a new Infinity One design - an almost frameless screen, providing an even more immersive viewing experience in an elegant design.

The attachable Slim One Connect box - a brand new cable management system that can be connected to the back of the TV - allows for easier and aesthetically cleaner installation.

The Neo QLED 8K also includes several premium audio features that fill the room. Sound in Motion Pro technology corresponds to the movement of objects on the screen. SpaceFit Sound analyzes the physical environment where the TV is installed and reproduces, therefore, a personalized surround sound specifically for that space.

There are no prices for this Neo QLED TV model yet, but it is likely to be released in the spring.
