Portugal currently has 7.2 million individuals who use smartphones as their main mobile device. According to Marktest’s TGI study, this is three times the number recorded in 2012.
The 7.2 million also represent 84.2% of Mainland residents aged 15 and over. Eight years ago, only 27% of Portuguese citizens used “smart phones” as the main form of wireless contact.
The evolution has been gradual, as shown by the Marktest chart, with an increase of around 10% each year. Compared to 2019, the growth seen this year is lower, standing at 5.3%.
According to Marktest, the use of smartphones as the most frequent mobile phone is highest among male individuals, as well as residents of Greater Lisbon, the youngest and the highest social classes.
