NIO is preparing to introduce solid batteries with a capacity of 150 kWh in its new ET7 saloon, whose launch may take place in the last quarter of 2022. These batteries, made up of solid ultra-energy density cells, present several advantages over the current ones, namely the possibility of updating. This means that older models can be equipped with these higher capacity batteries, thus increasing their autonomy.
Likewise, 150 kWh batteries can be compatible with all NIO models, allowing users to choose to replace the battery they have with a larger capacity one. When 150 kWh batteries are available, NIO vehicles will provide even greater range, in NEDC cycle: ES8 – 850 km; ES6 – 900 km; EC6 – 910 km.
The NIO ET7, which should bring this battery as standard equipment, promises an autonomy of more than 1000 kilometers. However, in the first quarter of 2020, this model will only be available with 70 kWh and 100 kWh batteries.
NIO announces that the new 150 kWh solid batteries have an energy density of 360 Wh / kg, 50% higher than the 100 kWh battery.
