The Minister of Education announced today that, in the coming weeks, a “reinforcement of the Internet” will be made in the various schools in the country, considering this bet on digitalization as the “biggest logistics operation” and “real reform” of the education system.
Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of a visit to the Dr. Costa Matos Basic School, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues made known the measure “gives a very high priority to audio and video so that whenever teachers are needed contact with students who are not in schools ”.
“What is happening right now is a real reform in terms of digitalizing our school and it is this digital school that we want to operate”, underlined the minister.
Regarding the Escola Digital program, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues indicated that, in addition to the 100,000 computers that were distributed during the first period by students in secondary education in the A and B brackets, the delivery of another 260,000 computers is expected. According to the minister, the distribution of new equipment will begin to be made during the second period of the school year.
The Minister of Education also revealed that “500 million euros are now allocated in the resilience and recovery program for the digitization of schools”, which will be used to “equip schools”, as well as for the training of teachers and non-teachers and in the dematerialization of pedagogical material.
Planned even before COVID-19 brought to light the weaknesses in access to digital tools by students who at the end of the 2019/2020 school year had to resort to distance learning, the program has a comprehensive view, integrating hardware and software, but also the strengthening of the skills of teachers and families, and the digitization of school textbooks, as SAPO TEK said to the Secretary of State for Digital Transition, André de Aragão Azevedo.
