Do you know MásMóvil? It will be the new operator in Portugal! The 5G auction was not just an auction to “distribute” frequencies among national operators. This process opened doors to new foreign operators and there is already a new operator in Portugal.
Spain’s MásMóvil took the three 1800 MHz frequency blocks in the 5G auction and becomes the fourth operator in Portugal.
Spanish MásMóvil acquired three frequency blocks in Portugal
The news is being broadcast by the channel Expansion which reveals that the Spanish MásMóvil won in Portugal the three frequency blocks in the 1,800 MHz band that were being auctioned, which will allow it to build a 4G network in Lisbon, Porto and Algarve.
The company will be able to compete with its three major rivals, MEO, Vodafone and NOS, who are required to rent their networks for at least 10 years in the rest of the country.
MásMóvil is owned by Nowo and ONI, which will have invested 54.351 million euros to acquire the three frequency blocks. The bidding values had already been revealed by the National Communications Authority, but now the Spanish newspaper has released the name of the new operator.
